Her family's farm laid on the banks of the Delaware River. Abigail, and her family were not loyalist and became very outspoken against the rising taxes and laws being passed out among the colonies. They all believed in a better life for the start of this small country. Her father was caught harboring the patriots and being a speakeasy if you would for talk of a revolution.  The Queen's Rangers soon found out, slaughtering her family.

"RUN LADY" her mother urged holding open the back door. They already had her home surrounded. Informing them the price to pay for tyranny. Abigail hesitated, not wanting to leave, to scared to move, to frighted of what was about to happen. It was dark, just dark enough for the Rangers not to notice the girl stepping into the shadows. She could hear her dad telling them to shove off. That this land was meant to be free from imperialist mentality.

She was supposed to hide in the barn with the horses, but the Rangers had already pulled them out, leading them to be with their own Cavalry. The Captain of the Rangers sat atop one of the few paints she had ever seen, it was like he had lightning across his sides. She was too busy staring at the stallion before she realized they had set her house ablaze. The fire spreading quickly as the summer had been dry this year. The had already taken hold on the main house when she heard her parents screams, bringing her back to reality. She ran back to the back door and saw two rangers, guns pointed at the lock, standing guard.

Abigail muffled her screams. One turned to the shadows, starting after her.  She Fled. She ran to the horses, hoping to scare them off since they were already unsettled from the sight of the flames. She didn't know if her parents screams had stopped, all she wanted was for them to leave. She grabbed one pistol from the holder on the saddle and untied the horses, sending them on their way back down the road.

By now the Rangers figured what was up, the captain dismounted his uneasy stallion, they stared at the fleeing horses, the fires casted tall shadows before them. Abigail had only fired a gun once, from what she remembered her dad said all you needed was to point and shoot. Tears welled up in her eyes as she approached them from behind. She cocked the gun, aimed at the captains back, and pulled.

The recoil hit her hard, in the head, Gun falling to the ground. She ran hard she would only have a split second, and that stallion was her ticket out of here. As the captain fell and released the horse, Abigail grabbed the reins from his falling hands, and reached for the stallions neck. She Pulled herself up on the side of the stud.  He tore out of her home and down the road.  Tears streamed down her face, the stud's pounding hooves drowned out the sound of the bullets flying past them. She finally pulled herself up on the horse and steared him down to the banks of the river, it would be the hardest place for them to keep up with her. Fall was starting on the morrow, and the leaves would help cover her tracks.

She pulled up the stallion, rubbing his neck. He tossed his head, in a playful way.  She whispered her thanks to him, he snorted in return. The Stallion wanted this new adventure and had grown tired of playing show pony. She felt the eagerness in him, as he picked up his pace, ears forward as he searched out a destination. He was the only thing she had now. She looked up into the sky, hoping her parents where already there, the summer was gone, and she was alone. The stars were dimmed by the fire raging behind her, She couldn't cry anymore, there was nothing left in her.

Her parents looked down on her from the smoke in the sky, happy they could save the only thing they had.
"There's our little lady."
